Brett Favre is on the cover of Sports Illustrated again, and we don't mean that special tribute issue that's been selling like mad this week.
Favre's retirement as the Green Bay Packers' quarterback is the magazine's top story in this week's issue, which hits newsstands today.
It's the ninth time Favre has appeared on SI's cover, and the third time since December.
The cover says "Hard To Say Goodbye," and there's a close-up photo of Favre with a tear running down his cheek.
Favre was under incredible pressure, and SI writes: "Last November, when the Packers were 10–1 and the toast of the NFL, Favre's wife, Deanna, told SI, 'I've seen a difference this year. Mentally and emotionally, he is so much more drained. The pressure to keep playing at this high a level gets to him.'"
So heavy was the weight last season, writes SI, that Deanna installed a masseuse's table in the basement of the family home and regularly tried to rub away her husband's stress. Why not bring in a pro? "Brett is a little weird about strangers touching his body," Deanna said with a laugh.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for North Carolina-based VF Corp., owner of the Wrangler brand, said Tuesday that Favre will be continuing his relationship with Wrangler. |
