| Favre Future Still Tied To Promise? |

We know that Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre has had minor ankle surgery, something he said he needed in order to play another season in the NFL.
We also know that Favre has not made a formal announcement that decision about a return could come sooner than expected.
Remember the promise Favre made while visiting his alma mater, Southern Mississippi?
Favre told the Golden Eagles baseball team that if they returned to the College World Series for a second consecutive season, he would return for season No. 20 with the Vikings.
''I was a kid again when ya'll played Texas in the College World Series,'' Favre told the Golden Eagles, according to a post on the university website pulled by www.startribune.com. ''The team physician with the Vikings was at my house when I was deciding on (shoulder) surgery. He walked in with my agent, Bus (Cook), and he spoke to me. I put my arm out and said you have to wait because Southern Miss is playing in the College World Series."
Southern Miss has taken the first step toward returning to the College World Series in one of the regional rounds. The No. 3 seeded Golden Eagles face Creighton on Friday afternoon. Auburn, the No. 1 seed in that region hosts Jacksonville State. Southern Miss is one of 64 teams in the NCAA tournament.
The first regional runs from June 4-7 and is double elimination. This weekend's round is followed by a best-of-three Super Regional series and then the World Series.
Many believe Favre and the Vikings are on the same page as Favre rehabs post-ankle surgery, but the formal announcement of a return and a date on when Favre will show up to practice, those questions may not be answered for a while. Or we may know in two weeks, that is, if the Golden Eagles live up to their end of Favre's promise. |
