New York, N.Y. (AHN) - Brett Favre, Mike Holmgren and Kevin Everett were among this year's winners in the Professional Football Writers of America (PFWA) awards held on Friday.

Favre, who recently retired after 17 seasons in the NFL, was bestowed the Good Guy Award for his support to the media in its quest for the truth. Favre was cited for providing honest answers and the extra time he provided especially to out-of-town reporters during his final season with the Green Bay Packers.

While Seahawks coach Holmgren was given the Horrigan Award, an award given to a person other than a player or a member of a team's media relations for helping the media do its work in providing credible news. Holmgren edged NFL commissioner Roger Goddell during the voting of PFWA members.

The PFWA also gave the Halas award to Everett, for overcoming a life-threatening injury last season. Everett sustained a fracture and dislocation of his cervical spine during the 2007 opener that resulted in permanent neurological impairment. But Everett came out of the injury days later eventually taking his first public walk on Dec 23 at the Ralph Wilson Stadium during the home finale against the Giants.

Also cited in the ceremony are the Seattle Seahawks media relations department for its exemplary work in its field last season and ESPN's Len Pasquarelli for distinguished service.
